How to Get Any Graphic Assessed

Tools and plans for getting any Graphic Reviewed

Introduction

A graphic is used to convey information or set a mood. Examples of graphics conveying information include your company logo, icon, and/or favicon. Background colours, images, and fonts are used to set the mood. Graphics are effective if they are memorable and have an impact that is consistent with the goals that you want to achieve with your target audience. A common non-graphic example that is used to set the mood of the target audience is the music used in a movie -- think horror or romantic movies.

A properly designed graphic can be automatically scaled and still be recognizable and effective.

A favicon is an example of a tiny graphic that usually is displayed in the address bar of your browser. It should be consistent with your branding and be legible at very small sizes, usually 16x16 pixels. Most well-known companies have good examples of logos consistent with their branding. For instance, Apple's apple logo is uniquely identified with the company. IBM's logo is also memorable. The former is a pure graphic and the later is a stylized font.

Graphics are judged on:

  • Uniqueness
  • Impact
  • Clarity.

Also, the choice of colours and fonts will be important when applied to your graphics in different media, like web sites, print, and signs.
